What Is an Influencer Marketplace? How It Works for Brands and Creators

What an influencer marketplace is, how brands and creators use one step by step, what each fee model costs, and how it compares with an agency or a database.

An influencer marketplace is a platform where brands hire creators who have opted in to paid brand work. A brand posts a campaign or browses creator profiles, chooses who to hire, and the marketplace carries the deal: the terms, the content approval and the payment. It usually charges a fee per hire or per campaign instead of an agency retainer. The opt-in is what separates it from an influencer database, which indexes public accounts that never agreed to work with you, so every reply and contract stays your job.

For brands, most marketplaces follow seven steps: describe the job, collect interest, shortlist and pick with a backup for each spot, agree terms in writing, ship product to creators who accepted, review drafts against the brief, then pay on approval and keep the final files with a record of their usage rights. For creators, the same flow runs from a profile and media kit to applying, delivering and getting paid after approval. Creator-side fees vary by platform, which shapes what creators keep and who applies.

Six models share the marketplace name. Full-workflow campaign marketplaces such as Aurelia let a brand post one campaign and run offers, contracts, shipping, approval, payment and usage rights in one place. Browse-and-book marketplaces such as Collabstr sell priced creator packages. Subscription marketplaces such as Insense charge a plan plus a fee. UGC-on-demand platforms such as Trend sell videos in credit packs. Managed services such as Minisocial and Statusphere choose creators for you, and platform-native tools such as TikTok One and Meta's Creator Marketing Hub each cover one network.

An agency sells its people's time to own strategy and creator relationships; a marketplace fits brands that want to make those calls themselves and hand off the operations. A database sells search and contact data, so outreach, contracts and payment stay with your team. A gifting platform sends product to many creators in exchange for posts, which helps awareness but gives you less control. In Influencer Marketing Hub's 2026 survey, 66.33% of respondents ran influencer marketing entirely in-house, which is exactly the workload marketplaces are built to absorb.

The same $3,000 creator budget costs different amounts under each fee model, as of October 2026. On Aurelia, a platform fee on top with no subscription brings the brand's total to $3,300, and creators receive $2,700 after Aurelia's 10% creator fee, which is already taken out of the take-home shown before they apply. Collabstr's free plan also totals $3,300 for the brand, and creators receive $2,550 after its 15% commission. JoinBrands' pay-as-you-go plan totals $3,450, and an Insense trial month with its 20% fee totals $4,250. Before choosing, check that creators are opted in, terms are written down and creators are paid on your approval.

Aurelia is a creator campaign marketplace where a brand posts one campaign and the agency work runs in software. Creators apply, Aurelia's picks rank every applicant by fit with the brief with plain reasons and real work samples, offers and contracts go out automatically, shipping is tracked from validated addresses, drafts are reviewed in one workroom, and creators are paid automatically from one campaign order when the brand approves their work. The budget is paid in before the campaign goes live and held until work is approved. The workspace is free, with a platform fee per campaign added on top of the creator budget and a 10% creator fee, as of October 2026, already taken out of the take-home creators see before they apply.
