Spark Ads vs Partnership Ads vs Whitelisting: The 2026 Guide for Brands
Spark Ads vs partnership ads vs whitelisting: how each works, the creator permissions brands need, what Meta’s Creator Marketing Hub changed, and pricing.
Spark Ads, partnership ads and whitelisting all describe the same deal: a brand pays to run a creator's content as an ad under the creator's name. Spark Ads are TikTok's format, where the creator generates an authorization code on one organic post and the brand adds it in TikTok Ads Manager. Partnership ads are Meta's format for Instagram and Facebook, run from the creator's handle once the creator grants ad permissions. Whitelisting is the older umbrella term, which historically meant the creator gave the brand direct access to their accounts.
Choose the format by platform and by where the content lives. Spark Ads need a public organic post on the creator's TikTok, and engagement from the paid run is credited to that post, but the ad's display name and text cannot be edited in Ads Manager. On Meta, a creator can post and let the brand boost it, or share content through Ads Manager so it never appears on their grid. Content with licensed music cannot run as a partnership ad. For many hooks and cuts, run delivered files from the brand's own account as paid usage.
Meta launched its Creator Marketing Hub on September 15, 2026, merging Creator Marketplace and the Partnership Ads Hub. Trade coverage from MediaPost and Common Thread Collective reports AI content recommendations and discovery filters, one-click ad creation, content-level permissions with expiration dates, brand-to-creator messaging and Instagram Live partnership ads from September 29, 2026. Claims that partnership ads are now mandatory could not be traced to any primary Meta source, according to an October 2026 analysis by Augmentum, which also found no documentation for a fixed 90-day permission expiry.
Ad access is priced by convention, not by any platform. Later's 2026 pricing guide puts whitelisting and paid-ads usage at 30 to 50 percent on top of a creator's base rate. An illustrative example: a $400 TikTok video with a 30-day Spark Ads test at 30 percent costs $120 more, while 90 days at 50 percent costs $200. Testing several creators for 30 days and extending only the winner at a renewal price agreed up front avoids committing to long windows before you know which ad works.
Spark Ads have no rate card of their own: the cost is the media you buy in TikTok's auction plus what you pay the creator for access. TikTok requires campaign daily and total budgets above $50 and ad group daily budgets above $20, which puts a 30-day test in one ad group at $600 of media. TikTok publishes no Spark Ads CPM, and third-party benchmarks disagree on whether Spark runs cheaper than standard In-Feed ads, so compare both in your own account on cost per result. If you sell through TikTok Shop, GMV Max is the campaign type, and authorized Spark Ads posts are one of its creative sources.
A platform permission is not a license, so put the terms in writing before any code or permission is shared: the exact posts, the format and platforms, one end date shared by the contract and the platform, the fee per window and renewal price, payment before access, the post staying live, notice for early revocation, royalty-free audio, spoken and on-screen disclosure, comment moderation, edit rights and any exclusivity. Never ask for or accept a creator's login.
On Aurelia, the work around creator ads happens in software. Application questions ask who is open to Spark Ads, and Aurelia's picks rank applicants by fit with the brief. Each creator agreement is generated from the campaign, with an optional Paid ads clause of 3, 6 or 12 months covering ads from the brand's accounts and, with the creator's consent in the platform, Spark Ads and whitelisting, plus optional exclusivity. Creators accept and sign in one step, the brand pays one campaign order through Stripe, each creator sees their take-home pay before applying and is paid to their bank automatically when the brand approves their work, and final files come back in one ZIP with their usage rights recorded.
