Micro vs Nano vs Macro Influencers: Which Tier Fits Your Brand and Budget?

Micro influencer vs nano influencer vs macro: what each tier means, 2026 rates side by side, engagement and cost per 1,000 views, and how to mix tiers.

Micro influencer vs nano influencer is a question of follower bands, and the bands vary by source. Influencer Marketing Hub’s 2026 rate guide counts nano creators as accounts under 10K followers, micro as 10K to 100K followers, macro as 100K to 1M followers and mega above that, and applies the same bands to Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Later’s 2026 guide starts nano at 1K followers, and Later’s 2025 Instagram report used a mid-tier of 100K to 500K followers. On TikTok, where videos reach people who don’t follow the account, median views say more than the tier label.

Prices rise steeply by tier. Influencer Marketing Hub’s 2026 planning ranges put a TikTok video at $50 to $200 for nano creators, $200 to $800 for micro and $800 to $5,000 for macro, while Later’s 2026 baseline per post runs $100 to $500 for nano, $500 to $2,500 for micro and $2,500 to $10,000 or more for macro. The two benchmarks differ by up to about 10x at the small tiers. On Collabstr’s marketplace, about 80% of collaborations cost under $300. Paid usage rights and whitelisting add about 30 to 50% each, according to Later.

Engagement depends on how it is measured. By followers, HypeAuditor’s tier figures put Instagram engagement at 1.73% for nano accounts and 0.68% for micro accounts in 2024, then roughly level for larger tiers. By views, Socialinsider’s 2025 TikTok data shows 4.40% for accounts with 1K to 5K followers and 3.75% to 3.95% for accounts with 50K followers and up. Reach moved the other way: average views per video fell to 350 for the smallest accounts, while accounts with 100K to 1M followers averaged 34,900 views. Dividing IMH’s TikTok prices by those views gives a rough cost per 1,000 views of $143 to $571 for the smallest nano accounts, $20 to $81 for micro creators with 50K to 100K followers and $23 to $143 for macro.

Match the tier to the goal. Nano creators suit testing hooks, gifting, niche launch buzz and content for your own ads; micro creators carry reach, with the lowest cost per view in the data at 50K to 100K followers; a macro creator buys one concentrated moment. An illustrative $2,000 TikTok test might pay one upper-micro creator $600, two micro creators $350 each and five nano creators $100 plus product, holding $200 back for usage rights. An illustrative $10,000 launch adds one macro creator at $3,000 alongside eight micro and ten nano creators.

A micro influencer marketing strategy comes down to six decisions. Size the roster from the budget: Later suggests 50 to 60% of a budget for creator fees, so $5,000 pays for six or seven micro creators at $400 a TikTok video, inside IMH’s $200 to $800 range. Choose by niche and median views, because accounts with 50K to 100K followers average about three times the views of accounts with 10K to 50K. Brief one job per video, price ad rights before anyone films, score every video on one number such as cost per 1,000 views, and run the campaign in rounds, rebooking the creators who beat your number.

More creators means more work: each one needs a brief, a contract, a parcel, a review, a disclosure check and a payment, and the FTC expects brands to monitor the creators they work with. On Aurelia, a brand posts one campaign and creators of any size apply, with no follower minimum. Aurelia’s picks rank applicants by fit with the brief, the pay is set per creator, contracts are generated from the campaign, shipping and reviews run in one workspace, and the budget is held until the brand approves the work, when each creator is paid automatically. The workspace is free, and one platform fee per campaign is added on top of the creator budget; creators see their take-home pay, with Aurelia’s creator fee already taken out, before they apply.
