Influencer Marketing for Skincare and Beauty Brands: The 2026 Playbook, With Brand Examples

Influencer marketing for beauty brands: what’s working at CeraVe, Clinique, e.l.f. and Tower 28, plus who to cast, what to send and what it costs.

Influencer marketing for beauty brands works when creators who match the customer show the product in real use, again and again. The clearest public examples are simple. CeraVe, a drugstore line launched in 2005, took off in 2020 when dermatologists and skincare creators explained it online; WWD reported 82% like-for-like sales growth in the first nine months of that year. Tower 28 started with 200 packages mailed to mostly micro-influencers, Beauty Independent reported. Cast by skin type, shade or hair type, ask for one simple thing on camera, and rehire whoever performs.

Older brands and products do well with creators. Clinique first released its Black Honey shade in 1971. In September 2021, Fox Business reported that the #CliniqueBlackHoney hashtag had passed 19.9 million TikTok views and that Sephora and Ulta Beauty had sold out of the shade. Clinique told the outlet it changed its digital plan to partner with product fans, both influencers and consumers, and saw significant sales increases across all channels. For an established brand, the place to start is the longest-running best-seller and the people already posting about it.

e.l.f. Cosmetics noticed 3 million views on its own hashtag, ran a small TikTok test, then built a 15-second clip around an original song that creators remixed; AdExchanger reported 1.6 billion views in just over a week. Sephora opened applications for its Sephora Squad and received approximately 16,000 in six weeks before selecting 24, according to Glossy. Maybelline’s Sky High mascara sold out at Ulta Beauty four times after a partnered creator video, The Zoe Report wrote. The shared pattern: start with existing fans, cast for fit, ask for one simple demo and repeat what worked.

The formats that suit beauty are texture close-ups, routine diaries, get-ready-with-me videos, shade matches, first tries and wear tests, wash days, scent stories and ingredient explainers. The videos that work show texture, routine, shade and how the product fits a day. Casting starts with one line describing the customer, then application questions that let creators state their fit: skin type for skincare, shade and undertone for complexion makeup, hair type for haircare and favorite scent families for fragrance. Size the cast to cover the range you sell before looking at follower counts.

Send a full-size product in the shade the creator picked, with enough to last the use period, and brief the routine on one page: who the product is for, where it sits in the routine, the one thing to show, and the same daylight for every check-in. Skincare needs a few weeks of use before filming; makeup and fragrance need days. A first paid test can start around $1,000 for five nano creators, and about $5,000 covers ten micro creators with ad rights on the best videos, using Influencer Marketing Hub’s 2026 ranges.

Aurelia is the creator campaign marketplace where a beauty brand posts one campaign and the whole job runs in one place. Brands start from skincare, makeup, haircare and fragrance templates or import a brief they already have. Application questions screen creators for skin type, shade and hair type, and Aurelia’s picks rank applicants by fit with the brief. Contracts are written from the campaign, shipping sits in one place, drafts get comments at the exact second of a video, and creators are paid once the brand approves. It is free to start, with one fee on top of the creator budget.
